LinksHISTORY WHAT TO SEE DARK & CREAMY GOODNESS |
In a country known for being largely rural and relaxed, Dublin has a cosmopolitan style and lots of energy. As the Irish economy boomed, so did its capital as the city's options have expanded enormously. While Dublin seems rough and raw by the rest of Ireland's standards, it is still one of the friendliest major cities in the world. It may not be New York or London, but it's nearly as exciting as both. There are, of course, a tremendous number of pubs and clubs -- with enough variance for every taste. It has vibrant music, theatre and literary scenes. And new museums, concert venues, and construction projects are scattered all over the city. Almost a third of Ireland's population lives in and around Dublin. The neighborhood of Temple Bar is the newest center of nightlife. While Smithfields, right across the River Liffey, is developing into the next cultural center. Even the suburbs are booming, which of course brings traffic and congestion. Despite all the modernization however, old Ireland can still be easily found in the castles, cathedrals, and fine old pubs that saturate the city. Shop Irish
